Kenmore is a Destination

by Steven Motich

The Facts:
Kenmore is a destination. It’s a place to spend time and relax, enjoy good food and entertainment. It’s a place to connect with friends and make new ones.

I can already tell that most of you are nodding your head in disagreement and I understand why. For most of our lives most people have told us that Kenmore is essentially a wasteland with nothing to do and no reason to go there. They’ve said that most people just “end up” there and are only there because they have no way out.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Instead of listing all of the great places here, let’s say this: We have the best chicken and jojo’s, delicious New York and deep dish pizza, great ice cream shops, a classy martini and jazz bar, a great rock venue, the area’s top comic book store and hobby shop -- the list could go on.

Kenmore is home to a thriving and diverse set of businesses!

What that really means:
Now that we’ve set aside the idea that “there’s nothing to do here”, let’s talk about what local business does for the community.

When you make the decision to spend your time and money locally, more of your money stays here in Kenmore and goes to support our local parks, libraries, restaurants and all the things that make our community a great place to be a part of.

And when you invite your friends and family to come along with you, they get to see the side of Kenmore that they didn’t know existed, which shows more people what’s available to do here.

The Challenge: Bring Someone Here for an Evening
To put my money where my mouth is I challenged myself to plan an entire date night with my wife and another couple, completely in Kenmore. It would have to include dinner, entertainment, and night cap of sorts.

For dinner, we started at Rocco’s Pizza and shared a pizza. The great thing about Rocco’s is that it also doubles as a place for entertainment. They have big screen TV’s set up with Nintendo Wii’s for people to use. After dinner we spent the next two hours competing in Wii games. Afterwards we made our way down East Avenue to Easten Cali for a generous helping of ice cream.

It was a great evening with friends and all our money was spent in Kenmore.

And now the challenge is to you. Take a look around the community you live in and be a part of it. Eat its great food, go to its clubs and bars, relax in its parks, and spend time with friends at all of them. Plan your own Kenmore date night and make it a great one.
